Fire personnel were on the scene for hours after the afternoon call of smoke in a storefront on the ground floor of the building between Ogden and Stillman streets, the Post said.

The fire, which was buried in a wall, eluded firefighters at first and did significant damage to the first and second floors, the Post said.

The American Red Cross was helping the four displaced residents, who were not hurt in the blaze.
